Military architecture through the years
A Talk by Jeff Hawley
Alconbury Airfield’s history spans from its 1938 founding as a British Royal Air Force (RAF) satellite base through World War II and the Cold War, ending its operational life in the mid-1990s after decades of continuous American occupation. Once a strategic site for reconnaissance and bomber operations for both the RAF and United States Army Air Force, the airfield is now being redeveloped into Alconbury Weald, with its military heritage being preserved through listed buildings, public archives, and a planned heritage trail.
