Nassington Update No.3

It’s cooler, we’ve had a bit of rain, but the clay is still baked hard and our trowels just seem to polish the surface!
Nevertheless we’ve made some wonderful discoveries, and the afternoon cake has been top notch!

Another 3rd to 4th century carved bone pin, this time complete and clean and sharp as the day it was made.

The big Nene Valley colour coated pot mentioned in our last post is very expertly reconstructed in our field tent. And supported by a very stylish kneeler!

Sherds from one of two wheel thrown Romano Saxon bowls, with tell tale finger depressions and incised patterns typical of 4th to 5th century work of this type. More of this in future updates.

A Roman twisted bronze or copper-alloy wire hoop earring with part of the pin still remaining.
